birth educator and author

My big-picture strategy for physiological birth has helped thousands of women birth the way they want.

You’re here because you know the kind of birth you want for your baby. You’re just not sure your dream is realistic – or if you are up to the challenge.

The good news is the right preparation really can transform those worries.

I’m not talking about deep-breathing exercises or birth positions (though we’ll cover those too), I’m talking about the bigger framework that those skills fit into.

From my 40-plus years of experience as a childbirth educator, I know that understanding this big picture can make all the difference to how you’ll feel during your labour. And to how your baby’s birth unfolds.

Join the thousands of parents I’ve educated and approach your labour knowing you’ve made the right choices for the birth you want.

From naive to savvy

As a childbirth educator, counsellor and doula (and occasionally drawing on my coaching skills as a one-time physical education teacher!), I’ve been empowering parents-to-be to take charge of their birth preparation for more than 40 years. I do this by teaching them everything they ‘don’t know they don’t know’ about birth.

Those I work with tell me my superpower is putting all the complex factors that influence birth outcomes – from routine medical interventions to personal psychological factors – into a step-by-step story that’s easy to understand, and straightforward to act on.

My work takes expectant parents from a naive ‘wait and see’ attitude to labour, to knowing exactly what they can do to achieve the birth they want.

It won’t be easy. You probably won’t stay calm. But that won’t matter. With my big-picture birth plan you’ll have paid attention to what does matter. We’ll go beyond tactics to what you really need: a strategy.
